Shots of me completing tasks

Here is a few image of me completing tasks for my trailer and blog.

This shot of me taking a still for my recce.
This is a shot of my adding some colour to my flat plans.
This is an image of me completing my storyboards.

Post-It-Note video about my inspirations from my trailer

This is a quick video i made about what films have inspired me to create my own horror film trailer.
Films such as Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project have inspired me because of there unique way of filming, they have used a hand-helled in a documentary style and i think this is perfect for a horror film.
Also characters such as Jason and Scream have inspired me because of there look and style, i wish to recreate something similar in my "Killer".

Skills Development

Here are a few images of me practising and improving on my photography skills using a simply digital camera.

The first two images are of the sky, I have been developing my skills of taking shots of the sky because when i create my trailer i will be taking shots of the sky to show the darkness and possibly the moon, by improving on these skills now i will be able to produce better shots for my actual trailer.

These next two images are of me practising with the zoom button, by developing an understanding of the zoom button i can achieve better shots in my trailer by using the camera to its full abilities.

Flatplans

These are my flat plans for my movie poster and my film magazine.

This is my film posters flat plans, it is a rough idea of what i want my film poster to look like. The first thing you notice when you look at the poster is the centred image of the cloaked figure, you notice his blank face around his hood as this stands out to the audience, the path is leading up to the figure so this makes the reader concentrate on the figure. Also the red pool of blood that the figure is stood in stands out as his weapon is glistening red. This element shows the danger of the character.

The surrounding trees show that the figure is in some sort of wood and is in the middle, trees are seen above and to the left and right of the figure showing that he is surrounded and is trapped. The red and brown in the trees represent that the season is autumn so this also helps with the darkness element.

The films name will be in a large red font at the top of the screen, with the font in a style that could be represented as blood dripping downwards as this will help show the films genre and build up the figure. The slogan for the film will be catchy and show its horror genre, this will be located just below the hooded figure to show that it is about him.

At the bottom of the screen is where all the actors names will be, this will also be where the production logos will go and the names of the companies involved within the making of the product. Also the films website will be in the centre of this area and will be advertising the website in order to gain some traffic to the website.

This is the flat plans for my film magazines front cover.

The very first thing you notice when you look at the magazine cover is the centred background image of the star, this stands out as the colour around the star makes the whiteness stand out against the surrounding colour. Once you are looking at the star your eyes notice the knife in the middle of the page and your eyes move down the knife and notice the blood on the weapon and the sinister blood pool dripping of the knife, this builds up a strong genre of horror within the front cover. Your eyes then travel back up the blade and look at the handle with the hand holding the weapon, you can see blood on the assailants hand and you automatically think he has murdered somebody.

The star is a demonic star, which intrigues the reader as they think the picture has a deeper and darker feel than first thought. There is also a few markings around the star and the audience may think that the person holding the knife may have carved the star himself since he is holding a knife.

The masthead is at the top of the page in a large bold text, this stands out against the white simple background, the style of text puts the concentration and main focus onto the first letter of the masthead. Just above the masthead is a small piece of text which reads "The UK's most popular monthly magazine", this adds a bit of credibility to the magazine. Just under the last letter of the masthead is a small piece of text outlining which issue the magazine is.

The main sell and strap lines are located under the knife on the right hand side, this is too show the main focus of the magazine is of the featured image, however there is a large area at the bottom right for other major sell lines, i aim to reduce the white unused space by packing it will sell lines that will entice the target audience and make them purchase my magazine.

Storyboard

This is my storyboard which is hand drawn by myself, i have created this so when i film my trailer i know what shots to create and in which order. I will talk about each shot of my storyboard.

!. This is the first shot of the trailer, it is a long shot and is a group of friends celebrating one of the main characters 18th birthday, this will be filmed from the characters point of view using a hand helled camera in a documentary style. The dialogue here is about where the group are going camping later on that tonight to celebrate,

2. The next shot is off an older woman talking about how some murders happened 15 years ago in the woods on the edge of town and how she believes the culprit is still alive. This shot is a medium close up.

3. This will be a text slide that will try and intrigue the reader.

4. This is a shot of the group getting the backs packed ready to go camping in the woods.

5. This is a long shot of the woods, something in the distance flies past but it is too fast to be seen. This will be a long shot used to set the location.

6. This shot will be of the night sky, possibly the moon, this is too add tension to the trailer and set the mood.

7. Shot seven is off the group walking down an alleyway type walkway with there camping gear, this will lead onto a shot of them walking through woods on a path. Long shot.

8. This will also be a long shot of some of the characters entering the woods.

9. A scream is heard in the distance and the group look a little bit startled and look about, in the end they end up joking about it and just move on.

10. This will be a follow on shot from shot 9 and will show the group walking into the thickness.

11. A black silhouette is shown in the distance against the dark background he is hardly noticeable.

12. A shot is shown of the group unaware of the figure.

13. A similar shot to shot 11 will be shown.

14. Filming with the hand helled camera you see the figure in the background but the group do not notice this. Long shot.

15. A twig is heard being snapped and the group stop and closely listen and look in the direction the sound was heard.

16. A shot will be shown from the direction of the twig snap, looking towards the group with the black figure on the complete opposite side and in the background of the group. Long shot

17. A medium close up of the figure reveals he has a weapon on him.

18. A close up is shown of the assailant with his weapon.

19. A shot is now shown of one of the group on the phone looking worried as he is given bad news, the group now start to worry

20. The group keep heading into the woods towards there destination, facial expressions are shown here to be worried.

21. A long shot is shown of the figure behind the group closing in on them. Long shot.

22. This shot shows the extent of the danger as the figure is closing in on a member of the group that is lagging slightly behind.

23. This is a medium shot which shows the figure reaching out to grab the character.

24. A black screen is shown, the sound here is a muffled scream and unpleasant noises.

25. A close up of a bloody weapon is shown with a pool of blood on the floor. The weapon is dripping into the pool.

26. This shot shows the group have noticed his disappearance, this unnerves the group and they panically shout for him.

27. A Long shot is shown from the characters camera of the figure in front of them.

28. The group shout and scream and start to run in the complete other direction, away from the figure. This is shown from the characters camera so not much is seen but running away. Fast paced scene.

29. From the camera you can see that the group run right into the figure.

30. The camera is dropped and all goes silent, this lingers for a while and heavy breathing is heard, This is a key shot and the final shot in the trailer.

Photo shoot plans

For my photo shoot i will be using a standard set up. The camera will be facing towards the subject down the middle, the key light will be on the left hand side to the camera and will provide most of the light. The fill light will be lower than the key light and will be used to fill in the shadows.

Recce of location

This is a recce of the locations i will film my trailer in. Even though my trailer will be less than two minutes long there will still be a lot of places i will be filming in as a trailer is like a montage of the whole film.

Below is an image from Google Maps which shows the main area i will be filming in, this area is full of dense trees and bushes, with mud paths leading all over, this is a prime spot to film in as it will help create the feel of a horror film.

This location will be used for the earlier scenes as this will be where the group are scene walking towards the woods.

This is another location for the earlier scenes, this will be used to show the characters entering the woods as this area is a few 100 metres away from a large wood.

This location is nearer to the main woods and is on the way, this is a nice area to film in as it has a lot of trees and would create a spooky atmosphere, as long as the lighting is right.

This area is a great little spot to do some filming in as it is an enclosed pathway with lots of green trees and bushes on either side, this when dark will create a creepy and tense feel to my trailer.

This is a cracking spot to shoot the shots of my hooded figure as it will be an extremely dark area with lots of trees around, creating an eerie feel and look to my trailer is essential and i believe this will be a prime location to film in.

This location is good and will be used to shoot some of the earlier scenes as, even though it is enclosed it is surrounded by buildings so it can only be used to show the characters leaving civilisation towards the woods.

This will be a spot i will use for the main parts of my film as it is a cracking spot, it has trees on each side and a small river running down the middle which will help build up a sense of a horror film.

Risk Assessment

Location: Woods
Hazard Level: medium
Why is it a hazard: since i will be filming when the visibility is low, and some the scenes require running there is a possibility you could trip over and injure yourself.
Prevent the risk: During the day when i can clearly see i will mark out a route and ensure that there is no objects blocking the route for the scenes and ensure that there is nothing that could injure somebody such as glass, on the floor.

Location: Woods
Hazard Level: very low
Why is it a hazard: When i will be filming i will be using bright torches since the visibility is low, there is a minor chance that during one of the scenes somebody could accidentally get temporary blinded by the light if hit directly in the eyes and could stumble into a tree.
Prevent the risk: I will ensure that nobody gets the torch directly in their eyes by telling all my actors about the light and that i will shout out if i am rising the torch above shoulder height.

Created production logos

Here are some production logos that I have designed and created which could be used within my trailer.

The first logo is called True Blood, the background image is a blood stain with blood running downwards. I have created this logo because since the genre is horror then the production company would be of the horror type so they would have a horror style logo. I think this logo works well as the text stands out well against the sharp background. Also towards the bottom of the logo, NathanBlairMedia.INC. is written to show that this brand is part of a bigger company.

This is the second logo I have created, the first thing that catches your eye with this logo is the large, bold red text at the top of the logo, it was skull crushing finale, with productions towards the bottom of the logo, this also is a logo from a horror company as you can tell from its name, the background skull is simple and plain which is an easy image for the eye, no bright colours, so adds effect. However i believe using photoshop i could make the skull much more effective by adding shading and dark effects to it.

The third and final logo i have created is a bit different to the others, this logo could be used in a wide range of production companies as it does not have specific look or feel of a genre. The alternative colours on each side show its contrast and stands out well, this also catches the readers eye. The text down the centre is clear to read because of its bold font.

Proposal of ideas

My trailer will be of the horror genre, it will contain some text to fill in the audience a bit about the story as the actually trailer will not contain much dialogue. I will be using a hand-held camera to film my trailer and it will be in the style of a documentary.

My trailer will start off at a party and you will see that it is one of the characters 18th birthday so that is why he is filming, the group are talking about going out camping into the woods later that night because of the occasion.

Now the camera switches to an older character who looks spooked and talks about something that happened in the woods a long time ago, they talk about how there was a series of murders but nobody was caught and how they think the killer is still alive and just as sinister.

You then see a shot of the characters with large bags on there back joking on and going into the woods, suddenly a large high pitched scream is heard in the distance, they look slightly confused but not fazed and after a quick turn of heads they keep heading inwards.

You can now see its getting visibly dark.

The next couple of shots are of a dark hooded figure with a large weapon, the figure stands out in the shot but is covered in darkness, a couple of these shots are quickly switched back and forth between the figure and the group unaware of his presence.

A snapped twig is heard and the group look in that direction and a shot is shown from the direction looking at the group with the figure on the other side, the group is still unaware.

One of the group receives a phone call from their mother telling them that there has been a murder of a girl they know on the edge of town.

The group look worried as they know the woods stretch all around the town, but they decide to do nothing about as they don't want to ruin the celebration.

More shots are seen of the figure and as one member of the group decides to go to the toilet this is when the figure strikes and you hear the character muffed scream slightly, time passes and the group gets worried, they wander into the woods shouting his name until they find a pool of blood.

They all look worried and scared and hurry back to the centre only to find all of there stuff is gone.

One thing leads to another and you hear a scream and then the characters start shouting and running so the camera shot is blurred and you don't see much.

Eventually the camera is dropped and the character hits the mat, and then slowly the shouting stops.

The last shot is of the figure picking up the camera and you hear its heavy breathing on the sound.
