Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Here is a video I have created to compare certain aspects of my trailer to a professional trailer.

Magazine Covers


Here is my movie poster followed by an edition of 'FILM' magazine which is a very popular and successful film magazine company.


I think my film poster looks quite professional next to the other poster. A major attribute in both covers is there colour scheme. I have created my cover with a simple colour scheme of black, red and white as these are colours which are bold and work well together, they could also be described as 'dangerous' colours. The professional cover also has a similar colour scheme which contains very few colours to help build up the effect.


The professional cover has a large image in the centre of the screen, this is used to help build up the thought that this is the most important factor of the whole magazine cover as it is large and has no strap lines or sell lines covering his face, i have attempted a similar thing with my film poster, as the image is in the centre of the screen and is not obstructed by any other sell lines. This is to show the reader that the image is the most important but on the whole cover.

Also, both sell lines for the movie featured are located in the bottom third of the screen under the image, this is to show the importance of the image and that the text is paired with the image. I have imported the name of my film from my poster in the same font, this helps link in with my film and shows the importance of the text to the film.

Both covers have sell lines located to the side of the images, also in both images certain words are in a bigger font than others, this is so the audience can see a name more visibly and might be attracted by there name if the word in large text is a famous name or film. This adds a professional feel to the magazine cover and both have bar codes in the same place, this just simply adds effect to the film cover.

Film Posters




This is my film poster and i will compare it to the film poster of the film 'The Blair Witch Project'.
Both films are of the horror genre so stereotypical to the genre is the colour black as darkness builds up fear inside the audiences head, so this is the colour which appears the most on the film poster. Both backgrounds are mainly black with white writting on as this stands out well and is easy visible. Another thing is that both images are surrounded by the black which builds up the feeling that they are trapped, with my movie poster showing a light up area leading towards the hooded figure which acts as a guidelines for the readers eyes, this adds to the 'trapped' feel. This is similar to the professional poster as the darkness surrounds the persons face and shows that he is 'trapped'.
Both posters are fairly free of sell lines and things covering the image centred, this shows that they are the most important thing in the poster as they are not covered. However their is sell lines for my trailer at the top of the screen which includes a quote from my magazine cover so this interlinks with my cover, i have also included the same font as this helps build up a feel for the trailer. The main head of information for the professional poster is above the image and below the trees.
In both posters the names of the production team and companies are at the bottom of the screen as this is mainly where they appear on movie posters. Mine also has a link to the movies poster at the bottom of the screen as this helps it look more professional. My trailers title appears in the same location as the real poster but mine has a much more overpowering presence as mine is in a larger more bold font which stands out well and catches the readers eye.
